As I began to look into the design of charcoal stoves, I found they are used widely in third world countries. They also varied in design.
As I continued my research I also found numerous initiatives to replace charcoal with alternative fuels, everything from organic materials, paper, garbage, etc. The use of charcoal leads to deforestation, which has happened in Haiti. Then a lady in our church brought me a website of a group that is working on a concrete block stove in Guatemala. These stove are built in houses and vented directly outside. This will prevent women from breathing in fumes and, due to their construction, children will not burn themselves should they touch the sides.
The Stove Project now had a long term goal and steps to follow:
1. redesign the charcoal stove for outdoor use.
2. research and develop alternative fuels.
3. build inexpensive equipment to make alternative fuels.
4.design and build concrete block stoves for use in Haitian homes.
